Invisalign is faster and more precise than traditional braces
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that has become increasingly popular since it was released in the 1990’s. It uses clear aligners to help correct issues like misaligned or rotated teeth. While many patients and dentists prefer Invisalign, there are a lot of misconceptions and myths about it. We’ll discuss six myths, along with the facts.
Myth #1: Adults and Seniors Are Too Old for Invisalign
Fact: These invisible braces were initially created for adults, and the teen version was developed later. There isn’t an upper age limit for treatment. Review our August 2017 post about why older adults prefer this treatment.
Myth #2: Braces Work Faster
Fact: The origin of this myth is unclear, but this alignment system works faster than traditional braces, sometimes cutting treatment time in half. The invisible the aligners gradually and evenly apply pressure to guide teeth into a precise location. Digital technology lets your dentist know the exact positions to which your teeth will be moved during treatment.
Myth #3: Braces Are More Effective
Fact: When Invisalign was first released, it had many limitations. It was later adapted to address complex cases. You can schedule a complimentary consultation to find out if it’s the right option for you.
Myth #4: I Can Order It Online
Fact: Orthodontics is a specialized treatment. If your teeth aren’t treated with care, they can be seriously damaged. You may be able to buy similar aligners online, but you will never get the same oversight and quality of care that a dentist can provide.
Myth #5: I’ll Have to Give Up the Foods I Love
Fact: If missing out on your favorite foods is a concern, Invisalign will appeal to you even more. You’ll remove the aligners when you eat. That isn’t true with traditional braces, which require that you avoid hard, chewy, or sticky foods.
Myth #6: I’ll Get More Cavities
Fact: If you drink sugary beverages while wearing your aligners, there’s a good chance that some of the liquid will seep between the aligners and your teeth and give bacteria a chance to thrive. If you make it a habit, eventually cavities can develop. It’s healthier for your teeth if you limit sugary food and drinks. And when you eat or drink, remove the aligners and brush your teeth afterward.
Correct alignment of your teeth will make it easier to remove plaque and bacteria as you floss and brush your teeth. When your treatment is completed, your smile will be attractive and healthy.
