At the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, our accredited cosmetic dentists can provide same-day CEREC crowns!

The inquiry below is from a patient from another dental practice who is concerned about the materials used in ceramic crowns.

I’m having difficulty getting information about CEREC crowns. I’m very cautious about what I put into my body and typically follow the instructions of my naturopathic doctor. However, even she isn’t sure which options are safe. She suggests I just have my tooth pulled. However, I really don’t want to do that. So, I contacted my general dentist to find out if CEREC is a good choice for me. My primary goals are to avoid metal and lithium because I have a thyroid issue. Are CEREC crowns metal-free and thyroid-safe, or should I just go ahead with the extraction? Thank you, Arabella

Response

Dear Arabella,

Your concerns are valid and there are options available to help you achieve a more natural approach. CEREC crowns are crafted from ceramic and, with the recommendation of a skilled cosmetic dentist, may be a great option for you.

Benefits of same-day CEREC crowns:

  • Convenience – Dr. Debra Gray King has CEREC technology right in her office. Unlike traditional dental crowns, which require two visits, this allows us to craft a customized crown while you wait.
  • Comfort – Since the crown is placed the day the tooth is prepared, there is no need to wear a temporary crown between appointments.
  • Composition – The crowns are metal free. They are made of high-quality ceramic and look completely natural. Unlike porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, a dark line from a metal foundation will never show at your gumline.
  • Precision – CAD/CAM technology uses 3-D digital images of your teeth produced by optically scanning your teeth. The computer then creates a dental restoration that precisely fits over your natural tooth and perfectly fits into your bite for maximum protection and comfort.

We would love to have you visit our office for a second opinion and discuss the possibilities for your smile. Call us at 404-994-4509 to request an appointment for a CEREC crown.
