The Difference in an Accredited Dentist
Is there really a difference in an accredited dentist? So many people think that a dentist is a dentist and that they are all the same, but this is far from the truth! In fact, we have had to redo some patients entire cases because they went to a dentist who didn’t really know what they were doing.
Dr. Cooper explains the reasons why you really want to do your research and pick not only a good dentist but the right dentist for this position!
Watch the live training where he shared this now!
Dentists have all graduated from dental school. They learned a lot of skill sets when they were there. But, there’s not a whole lot that’s taught in dental school about cosmetic smile makeovers. You can do some bonding and even do some beautiful crowns but when you’re talking about doing a complete smile, makeover, both upper and lower arch, it’s very technically difficult. On top of that, you really need to have an eye for aesthetics.
General dentists have a great skill sets but when it comes to seeing someone’s aesthetic, you really need that extra training. Especially to be able to do it in a way that will benefit them for a long time.
That’s why Dr. Cooper believes so strongly in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and its accreditation process.
What is the Accreditation Process?
The American Academy has a process called the accreditation and it’s a continuum of continuing education. There are live courses and hands on courses that you take to learn how to do these certain procedures. Additionally, there is a testing piece where you actually submit cases to your peers. In fact, after dental school, dentists don’t get graded. Dr. Cooper subjected himself to his peers who are all also accredited and said, “Look, here’s my work. Tell me what you think. What do I need to do to get better?”
It took about two and a half years to go through that process. Dr. Cooper shares that the one thing he learned after he finished it was that there were things he didn’t know. After going through that, he realized that he didn’t know a lot when it comes to a smile design. So that was the difference for him.
You also have to pass five written to become an accredited dentist. The test is very strenuous and rigorous. So much that there’s only 300 or so accredited dentists in the world, right since 1984, including Dr. Cooper and Dr. King. Typically you might get four or five more a year. But that’s it out of all of the hundreds of thousands of dentists in the United States. There’s only a couple of hundred that are willing to set themselves out there and be graded and judged and, and basically told what you’re doing wrong until such time that you get to a point where it’s actually you’re doing it the right way.
So How Can a Patient Find an Accredited Dentist?
Any patient can go the to American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry website to find an accredited dentist. This site allows a patient to search by city, state, zip code, etc to find a dentist in their area. In addition to that, the site will also allow them to see the level of accreditation they have earned from Sustaining Member all the way to Fellowship which is what Dr. King has earned.
How Can I Schedule My Appointment?
We encourage anyone out there that’s that’s thinking about their smile or thinking about changing their smile to explore the opportunity. We have a lot of patients and that come in and they know exactly what they want. Oppositely, there’s a lot of people out there that just don’t know what questions to ask. They don’t know if it’s if the smile transformation process is for them. And we recommend just picking up the phone and giving us a call. We can do Virtual Consultation, get the patient in touch with the treatment coordinators, and even bring them in to meet with the doctors.
We also have the ability to take photos and give patients an idea of what we see and what we can do. This can then help them make that decision. The process gets easier along the way and it’s always the first step that is the most difficult.
We try to make it easier with our online scheduling options as well. Schedule an appointment at https://www.atlantacenterforcosmeticdentistry.com/contact-us/
You can even tour the office virtually by going to https://www.atlantacenterforcosmeticdentistry.com/why-choose-us/virtual-tour/
