The accredited cosmetic dentists at Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry create stunning smile makeovers with porcelain veneers.

Below is an inquiry from a patient of another dental practice about porcelain veneers for teeth that are too short.

I insisted that my dentist give me porcelain veneers. My teeth have always been too short. They looked stubby and I didn’t like my smile. I’ve always been self-conscious about showing my teeth when I smile. I saw Kyle Richards’ new look on Instagram, and she complained of the same problem I have. So I asked my dentist for the same treatment Kyle received, but my smile doesn’t look like hers. My teeth are way too long and bulky. I almost feel like Bugs Bunny and I’m still uncomfortable smiling. Sometimes I wish that I had not asked for porcelain veneers. Was this the right treatment for me or did I have wrong expectations? Thank you. Naida

Response:

Naida,

Kyle Richards (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) has a gorgeous smile now, and she did have an issue similar to the one you describe. Each dentist has a unique skill set, so should find a healthcare provider that excels in the treatment you want. Cosmetic dentistry is an art. Not every dentist has the training, skills, and experience to produce the results similar to Kyle’s smile.

Porcelain Veneers Can Produce Amazing Results

Porcelain veneers can improve the appearance of teeth in several ways:

  • Enhance tooth shape, including lengthening teeth that are too short
  • Brighten discolored teeth that teeth whitening can’t improve
  • Improve tooth alignment

It sounds like you saw your general dentist for the work. Unfortunately, general dentists are often limited in their cosmetic dentistry skills, and they have fewer opportunities to perform cosmetic work. They place fillings and crowns and perform root canals frequently, and they often do them well. However, when you want truly beautiful dental work, it is best to be in the hands of an experienced cosmetic dentist, specifically an accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). A true cosmetic dentist is an artist with smile designs and cosmetic dentistry.

We recommend getting a second opinion from an accredited AACD dentist. Our doctors would be happy to see you and discuss the possibilities for your smile.
