It’s estimated that metal allergies and sensitivities affect 10-15% of the U.S. population. For many people, this causes concern about having a reaction to metal materials in dental work. If you have metal allergies or sensitivities, CEREC® crowns provide a metal-free solution for teeth that are badly broken, worn, or decayed. What should you know about CEREC crowns?

  1. Metal Free

CEREC technology

CEREC is the acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Unlike porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, CEREC crowns are all ceramic. If you have metal allergies or sensitivities, you don’t have to worry about having a reaction to these crowns.

  1. Precision

CEREC crowns are made with precision using CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology. Digital technology is used to scan your teeth and take pictures of them to produce a digital model that is transferred to a ceramic milling machine. Digital technology provides you with a precisely fitting crown.

  1. Made in the Dentist’s Office

All of the technology needed to craft your crown is in the dental office. At the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, our cosmetic dentists have advanced training in CEREC. The technology includes:

  • Intraoral camera for taking impressions of your teeth
  • Medical software, computer, and a screen that displays digital models of your teeth
  • Ceramic milling machine for crafting crowns
  1. No Temporary Crown Required

The process of receiving a traditional crown requires receiving gooey impressions of your teeth and wearing a temporary crown while you wait for a lab to make your permanent crown. CEREC in-office technology eliminates both of these inconveniences and allows you to have a fast, comfortable experience.

  1. Natural Looking

Ceramic resembles natural teeth. Our cosmetic dentists are experts at selecting ceramic that will blend with your natural teeth. The precision of CEREC technology, along with natural-looking materials produces pleasingly aesthetic results.
