We believe a healthy smile is the strongest foundation for a beautiful smile. Therefore, your periodontal care is of utmost priority.
Whether you are receiving a six-month, or more frequent, cleaning or full periodontal therapy, our hygienists will always strive for great treatment while maintaining your absolute comfort. Teeth cleaning is the removal of dental plaque and tartar from teeth to prevent cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease.
Professional cleaning includes tooth scaling, tooth polishing, and debridement if too much tartar has accumulated. This involves the use of various instruments or devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.
Oral Appliance Therapy
We offer TMJ treatments to help our patients resolve the painful symptoms associated with a misaligned jaw, while relaxing in our world-class dental spa.
TMJ stands for a medical term: temporomandibular joints. These are the joints and jaw muscles that function when opening and closing your mouth. When this structure is damaged or out of alignment, which affects about 25 percent of the population, a range of uncomfortable symptoms can occur. Oral Cancer Screening
If you are one of the many people who struggle with TMJ, we can help you get relief. The first step is to evaluate your individual condition to discover the underlying cause of your symptoms. Many patients can get relief through a specially-created dental appliance or mouthguard to wear during sleeping hours, along with special exercise routines to loosen tight jaw muscles. Your condition is unique, and only a personal consultation will reveal the most effective method to bring you long-term relief from the pain and discomfort associated with TMJ.
Many patients we treat at Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry suffer from TMJ as a result of teeth grinding. This is called “bruxism,” and not only can cause jaw misalignment, it wears down the chewing surface, making the teeth more prone to developing decay. Other physical habits that can lead to TMJ include chewing on hard objects such as pens, or a habit of continuously clenching your teeth.
At Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we take a conservative approach to treating TMJ. Our process involves fully understanding the contributing factors in planning treatment. We know much stress plays a role in modern life, and offer our patients a complimentary relaxing massage as part of each treatment.
We employ Joint Vibration Analysis to accurately diagnose your case of TMJ. This advanced diagnostic system allows us to better treat your case and provide a treatment that brings relief. If the TMJ symptoms have unpleasant and uncomfortable symptoms, we may prescribe a custom mouthguard to separate top and bottom teeth while you sleep. Some patients may require injections of anti-inflammatories or other medications. You can be fully confident that we will seek out the most effective treatment for you – our goal is to improve your quality of life, whether by restoring your smile or treating TMJ.

Oral Cancer Screening
In the past, traditional risk factors such as drinking, smoking and using chewing tobacco were considered the only cause of oral cancer, usually found in people age 40 and older.
Oral cancer is now being found in a younger population of men and women due to their exposure to the HPV (Human Papillomavirus). That is why the Centers for Disease Control recommends that all patients over the age of 17 be screened annually for oral cancer.
Oral cancer is one of the most curable diseases when it’s caught early. Early detection and diagnosis can make a tremendous difference in life expectancy; oral cancer is 90% curable when found in its early stages.
